Macron says Paris Olympics opening could be moved
French President Emmanuel Macron has suggested that the opening of the Paris Olympics could be moved to an earlier date in order to avoid a scheduling conflict with the 2024 US presidential election.
In an interview with French sports daily L’Equipe, Macron said, “We are considering the possibility of moving the start of the Olympics to July instead of August to ensure that it does not coincide with the US election, which could overshadow the event.”
The suggestion comes amid concerns that the Olympics could be overshadowed by the US election, which is scheduled to take place in early November 2024. Moving the start of the Paris Olympics to July would allow the event to take place before the US election campaign kicks into high gear.
While no final decision has been made yet, Macron’s comments have sparked a debate among Olympic officials and sports fans about the potential impact of rescheduling the opening of the Paris Olympics.
