Chibok girls feel let down 10 years after Nigeria kidnapping

It has been 10 years since over 200 girls were kidnapped from a school in Chibok, Nigeria by the militant group Boko Haram. Despite international outrage and promises of action, many of the girls still remain missing and their families continue to suffer.

The Chibok girls, as they have come to be known, were taken from their school in the middle of the night in April 2014. Their kidnapping sparked a global campaign calling for their release, with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls trending on social media.

However, as the years have passed, it seems that the initial fervor and support for the girls has waned. Many of the families of the kidnapped girls feel let down by the lack of progress in finding and rescuing their daughters.

Despite promises from the Nigerian government and international organizations to do everything in their power to locate the missing girls, very few have been rescued or reunited with their families. The girls who have managed to escape or be released by Boko Haram have faced difficulties in reintegrating into society and rebuilding their lives.

As the 10th anniversary of the Chibok girls’ kidnapping approaches, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats faced by women and girls in conflict zones around the world. The international community must not forget the Chibok girls and continue to push for their release and the prosecution of those responsible for their abduction.
