Celebrity Deepfake Porn Cases Will Be Investigated by Meta Oversight Board
In recent years, the rise of deepfake technology has raised concerns about the potential for misuse, particularly in creating fake pornographic videos featuring celebrities. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced that they will be launching an investigation into these cases through their Oversight Board.
Deepfake technology uses artificial intelligence to superimpose images or videos of people onto other bodies, creating realistic but entirely fake content. This has led to many instances of celebrities having their faces placed onto pornographic material without their consent.
The Meta Oversight Board, which was established to oversee content moderation on the platform, will now be tasked with determining the appropriate actions to take in cases of deepfake porn involving celebrities. This includes investigating reports, reviewing content, and potentially removing or taking down the offending material.
While deepfake technology has many potential positive applications, such as in the film industry or for creating realistic special effects, the misuse of it for creating fake pornographic content is a serious violation of privacy and consent. Meta is taking steps to address these issues and protect the rights of celebrities who may be targeted by such content.
